The SignShop, based in Plymouth, Devon, has around 50 years experience in signwriting and signmaking, including the marking of entire vehicle fleets, street name plates, traffic signs, health and safety signs, promotional banners and general signage in and around the City of Plymouth and beyond, thanks to our original roots under Plymouth City Council’s Manufacturing Section.

Traditional values from a forward thinking business

From a small room at the rear of Plymouth City Council’s Joiners shop, The SignShop have embraced advances in technology and market trends, building a firm standing in the world of signwriting. Now a team of seven, with some of the latest high-tech signmaking equipment and machinery available, in contrast, we also have over 40 years experience in producing traditional, hand painted signs, a valuable, sought after skill and highly effective today, yet very rare for a signwriter to be able to offer in-house.

The SignShop team is led by Mark Powell, who started with the company 17 years ago and now heads our team of 6 highly skilled signmakers / fitters, all of whom are apprentice served.

Quality assurance and accreditation

The SignShop are accredited to quality assurance standard ISO9001, we are a member of the British Signs and Graphics Association (BSGA) and we are accredited to the Highways Sector Scheme for the design and production of Traffic Signs.

Putting profits back into the community

In November 2009 the Manufacturing Section of Plymouth City Council, including The SignShop, transferred to a brand new Housing Association, ‘Plymouth Community Homes’, along with the rest of the Council’s Housing Section. This has given The SignShop the freedom to carry out work in a commercial market.

Plymouth Community Homes is a non-profit making charity and all profits generated are fed back into the community. By using The SignShop our customers are directly contributing to the overall re-generation of Plymouth.

Facilities

The SignShop is based in Plymouth, Devon and conveniently situated next to our sister companies including a Joiners shop and Metal Fabrication shop. From this enviable position, we often pool resources, drawing on specialist skill areas to create bespoke signs combining a number of different materials.

The SignShop is accredited to quality assurance standard ISO9001 and is a member of the British Signs and Graphics Association (BSGA). It is also accredited to the Highways Sector Scheme 9A for the design and production of Traffic Signs.

There is easy access for large vehicles (even double decker buses!) with an undercover area for carrying out any work required on them.
